To provide support for the newly created KIPP NYC Empire Teaching Fellows Program which provides aspiring teachers with no formal teaching experience the unique opportunity to receive high-quality training at a KIPP NYC school through a one-year fellowship. Program participants are paired with a high-performing KIPP teacher who serves as a coach and mentor for the entire school year. The program was created to expand their recruitment pool, create leadership opportunities for emerging teacher leaders to serve as mentor teachers and gain invaluable coaching skills, and build “bench depth.” Upon completion of the 12-month program, each Fellow will be a competitive applicant for a full-time teaching position at KIPP NYC. KIPP NYC, a network of 10 schools serving 3,595 students and 849 alumni, is part of a national network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public charter schools which prepare students in underserved communities for success in college and in life.
