The Smullin Scholarships

William B. Smullin was a graduate of Willamette University in journalism; Patricia D. Smullin graduated with a degree in psychology from the University of Washington. Higher education was important to the Smullins. During their lifetimes they gave multiple gifts to colleges and universities for facilities and scholarships.

The Smullin Foundation supports Patricia D. & William B. Smullin Scholarship Funds at six different colleges and universities:

Smullin scholarship recipients must demonstrate financial need and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5. They must have demonstrated a belief in the importance of free enterprise — the independent spirit and entrepreneurial initiative that individuals bring to their communities through their business endeavors — something William B. Smullin highly valued during the years he developed his broadcasting businesses.

“Going into my first year of college, I struggled with winning scholarships, despite filling out many applications. Now, in my second year, it feels incredible to be rewarded for the hard work I have put into school, work, and my extracurriculars. The money I receive will allow me to finish my year here at Southwestern Oregon Community College, which will in turn help me apply to the Physical Therapist Assistant program at Lane Community College. “I’ve found that the academic rigor at Willamette has brought the best out in me. My growth, both as a student and as a person, has been significant and scholarships, such as that from the Patricia D. and William B. Smullin Foundation, have helped me foster that growth. I plan on pursuing a Master’s in Business after I finish my undergraduate degree, and with my education, I’m hoping to establish myself in a career in finance.”
