The Trustees of the Richard King Mellon Foundation have established the following program priorities:

  • Downtown and Neighborhood Development
  • Building a Research and Technology Economy
  • Business Stimulus Initiatives and Workforce Development

  • Higher Education
  • Independent and Parochial Schools
  • Early Childhood Education

Human Services

  • Broad Scale System Reform
  • Nonprofit Capacity Building
  • After School Programs

The Foundation gives priority to projects and programs that have clearly defined outcomes and an evaluation component. Applicants must have valid IRS tax identification number and a current charitable status designation. The Foundation does not consider requests on behalf of individuals, or from outside the United States and does not encourage requests from outside Pennsylvania.

If you have determined that your project or program falls within the Foundation’s funding priorities, complete and submit a proposal as directed in the Foundation’s Application Procedures.
